Changing Places

The idea of place is made up of all things that come together to make a place what it is:

• Location
• Physical characteristics
• Human characteristics
• Flows in and out of that place
• Sense of place.
• Besides location all aspects of places and the meanings they have are constantly changing.

Place is important as it is how many people create their identity.

Individuals share characteristics that they feel bind them together as a group. creating a shared identity. 

• Local- Individuals from a village share a positive sense of the village.
• Regional- Indidviduals from a region sharing an accent.
• National- Individuals of a nation sharing a language, religion or love for the nation.
• Relating identity to a place means people can feel like they belog or not.

An Insider- familiar with the place and feels welcome here, eg a resident of the country.

An outsider- Someone feels unwelome or excluded from a place due to immigration, age ec.

• Experienced places are places that people have spent time in.
• media places are places people havent been to but have created a sense of place through their depiction in media.

The media may present a place in a particular way for a particular purpose.
