Cell Cycle

What is happening during DNA replication?

How is a new polynucleotide strand formed?

Why is the process of DNA replication called Semi-Conservative?

Replication Of DNA

Cell division occurs in two main stages:-

  • Nuclear Division:
    • the process which the nucleus divides:
      • Mitosis
      • Meiosis.
  • Cell Division:
    • follows nuclear division - process which the whole cell divides.

Before dividing of nucleus, DNA has to be replicated - ensures all daughter cells have genetic info - to produce enzymes & other proteins.

DNA replication process is very precise, because all new cells almost identical to original.
