The location of the section of DNA invoved is found. 

A specific enzyme is used to extract the gene needed. 

Plasmids are removed from the bacterial cells. 

The DNA of the plasmids is cut open with a specific enzyme. 

The gene already is extracted is inserted into the plasmid.

The plasmids are inserted back into the bacterial cells. 

The bacterial cells that succeeded are now called transformed or genetically modified. 

They are then reproduced to create a genetically modified product.
