Key Law Terms (Criminal)

Summary Crime = Less Serious Crime

Triable Either Way = More Serious Crime

Indictable = Very Serious Crime

Warrent = A document issued by the Govement, authorizing police to arrest or search premises

Objective = When someone's decision IS NOT influenced by personal feelings or opinions!

Subjective = When someone's decision IS influenced by personal feelings or opinions!

Summons = A document, which demands you go to the court by law, as a defendant or witness 

Common Law = 'Judge- Made Law'  aka Case Law

Assault = An 'attempt' or 'threat' to apply force

BWS (Battered Woman Syndrome) = Shown 'Symptoms or Injuries/Mistreatment' of a Women by a Male
