Breast Cancer Individual Physical Impacts:

•Lower fertility levels depending on which chemotherapy drugs have been used or hormone       therapy.

•May have permanent scars following surgery.

•May have to have breast reconstruction or prostheses.

•Low confidence/ self-esteem

•Feel unfeminine

•Feels lopsided/ incomplete

•Feels unattractive

•Worry / anxiety / uncertainty about the future

•Fear about the treatments they will receive 

•Shock / unable to accept.

Breast Cancer Individual Social Impacts:

·         Social isolation from family / friends

·         Lack of contact with work colleagues – if has to take time off

·         Increased contact with health care professionals

·         Strengthen relationships with family/friends

Breast Cancer Individual Financial Impacts:

•May need to leave work – salary affected e.g. goes onto statutory sick pay/ has to leave work and relies on benefits.

Bowel Cancer Individual Physical Impacts:

•May have to have a stoma

•May have permanent scars if had surgery

•May have bleeding from the bowel initially

•May suffer from Tenesmus – feel like they need to go to the toilet all the time even if the bowel is empty

•May have a fissure -  some people develop a split in the skin (a fissure) where the back passage opens to the outside of the body

•Bowel control problems

•May develop a food intolerance

•Worry / anxiety / uncertainty about the future

•Fear about the treatments they will receive 

•Shock / unable to accept what is happening / denial

•Confident about chances of survival

Leukemia Individual Physical Impacts:

•Radiation could cause them to develop hearing loss, vision problems or cavities.

•They may develop lung disease or heart damage if they have radiotherapy on their chest.

•Chemotherapy could cause infertility
