Precipitation reactions

Ionic compounds wont react in a solid form because the ions are not free because of strong ionic bonds - giant lattice

If the compounds are melted or in a solution they are able to react because the ions can move anc collide

if one of the products is insoluble it forms a precipitate - precipitation reaction

precipitation reactions are very fast owing to the frequent collisions of the particles
