  • Sometimes things have to move against a concentration gradient from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration this is called ACTIVE TRANSPORT
  • It happens in 2 situations    1: Against a concentration gradient

                                                   2: When a molecule is too big to move through the partially permeable membrane

  • It requires ENERGY, the energy comes from cellular respiration so cells that are involved in lots of active transport have many MITOCHONDRIA
