Biological explanations of OCD evaluation

Supporting evidence:

Evidence from lots of different studies suggesting that some people are more vulnerable to OCD because of their genetic make-up. Researchers found that 68% of identical twins shared OCD compared to 31% of non-identical twins - which suggests that genetics do have an influence on OCD.

Environmental risk factors:

Environmental factors can also trigger or increase the risk of developing OCD - Cromer et al found that over half of the OCD patients had some sort of traumatic event in their past and that OCD was more severe to those who had more than one traumatic event. This suggests that OCD isn’t just influenced by environmental factors and that it might be more productive to focus on these factors since we are more able to have control over them.
