The chemicals in our brain have an impact on our emotions and this will influence our perceptions of others. Dopamine is associated with pleasure seeking so the goal of finding a partner and being driven to this will give us a hit of dopamine. Which is why humans are driven to form relationships.

Relationships form with individuals who have certain traits. Traits that enhance successful reproduction are naturally selected. Women may look for men who can provide and have good health. Whereas men may look for attractive features such as smooth skin, thin waists, good signs of fertlity and good health.
