Food Preservation

The six ways of preserving food:

1. Canning/Vacuum Packing (Foods are heated to kill bacteria and then sealed in a vacuum to prevent entry to oxygen and bacteria.)

2. Cooling (Slows down bacterial and fungi growth and reproduction.)

3. Freezing (Kills some bacteria and fungi and slows down growth and reproduction.)

4. Drying (Removes water so bacteria cannot feed or grow.)

5. Adding salt or sugar (Kills some bacteria and fungi, as the high osmotic concentration will remove water from them.)

6. Adding vinegar (Will produce very acid conditions killing most bacteria and fungi.)
