Avoiding the Plague- 1665

  • Shop keepers made people put their money in a pot of vinegar to clean it
  • No animals were allowed on the streets, including; cats, dogs, pigs or even pigeons
  • Rich people carried sweet-smelling posies (small bunched of flowers and herbs)
  • Poor people held cloths soaked in vinegar to their noses
  • some people thought that smoking a pipe would ward off miasma so children were made to smoke
