Christian Views Evidence

"Whatever measure you deal out to others, will be dealt back to you"   This shows how we should show mercy to others; instead of just putting them to death, we should give them a second chance and try reform and rehabilitation.

"If you enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing so you will heap burning coals upon his head."                             This implies that we should show mercy to people and give them another chance instead of condemming them to death; as through doing this, we can hopefully awaken feelings of guilt, compassion and the need to change, which should lead into them reforming into a better person.

Muslim Views Evidence

"The law of equality is prescrivbed for in cases of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave"                                                                   This shows that we should punish those through as simular punishment to the crime they have commited, meaning that murder would equal a death sentence. This also helps to ensure that people get compensation equal to the crime that was committed against them.

"As to the thief, male of female, cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example from Allah"                                                                     The Qur'an shows that harsh punishments shown be set to make an example of the sinner, so that the crime is not commited by others. This means that we should use capital punishment as a detterent to prevent others from murdering and protect communities from harm.
