Definition of attempts:

'A person will be guilty of attempt if: with intent to commit an offence to which this section applies, a person does an act which is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the offence'

An attempt is an incohate offence. This means 'at an early stage'. They are therefore incomplete offences.

An attempt must be a positive act, so it can't take place through omission.
