The Nucleus

In the middle of the atom

Contains Protons and Neutrons

Positvely charged because of protons

The Electrons

Move around the neucleus

Negatively charged

They are tiny

1 of 2

Atoms 2

Protons are havey and positively charged

Neutrons are havy and neutral

Electrons are tiny and negatively charged

Number of elcectrons EQUALS the Number of protons

Neutral atoms have no charge

Number of electrons always equals number of protons in a neutral atom

If electrons are added or removed the atom becomes charged and is then an ION
