Aries: 1) in the past - little distinction between children and adults - working at an early age, children = mini adults. However, C17th/18th changes began - difference in clothing - tips of child rearing - growing child centeredness.

Hillman: 2) boys are more likely to have freedom go out etc paticularly after dark.

Pollock: 3) different idea of childhood in the Middle Ages in contrast to NOW.

Bonke: 4) girls tend to do more domestic labour - esp in lone parent families.

Brannen: 5) asian parents more strict on daughters

Shorter: 6) different parental attitudes to children different in Middle Ages  - higher death rates ,neglect many more births but high IMR.

Gittens: 7) age patriarchy - inequality between adult and child, adult domination and child dependancy - believes patriarchy oppresses children aswell women.

Howard: 8) class - children born & raised in poor families prone to illness, falling behind at school, being involved with social services.

Postman: 9) chilhood now dissappearing - children/adults have similar rights - mdeia highlights less distinction also - technology impacts construction of childhood.
