animal and plant cells

what the different functions of a cell are and what they do

HideShow resource information

Animals and plants

Ribosomes: is where the protein synthesis takes place. All the proteins needed in the cell are made here.

Cell membrane: controls the passage of substances in and out of the cell

Cytoplasm: is a liquid gel in which most of the chemical reactions for life take place. One of the most important is respiration.

Nucleus: controls all the activities of the cell. It also contains the instructions for making new cells or new organisms.

Mitochondria: structures the cytoplasm where oxygen is used and most energy is released during respiration.

Plants extra functions

Cell wall: made of cellulose strengthens the cell and gives it support.

Chloroplasts: are found in green parts of the plant. They release chlorophyll which gives the plant it's colour. They absorb light energy to make food for photosynthesis.

Permanent vacuole: is improtant for keeping cells rigid to support the plant.
