Analysis

The process of data anlysis is concerned with turning the evaluation data collected into information on which you can make decisions.

Analysis for evaluation purposes involves the following three steps:

1 of 4

1. Collating the data:

Gathering together all the data collected (for example, observation notes, data collection forms, completed questionnaires, audio and video recordings, analytics, etc.) and organising it for processing.

2. Analysing and summarising the data:

Extracting patterns or other observations from the collated data, whether by applying statistical tests or by applying some form of qualitative analysis. These key patterns or observations are the first step of 'making sense' of the data - and therefore transforming it from data to information.

3. Reviewing the data:

Assessing whether the usability and user experience goals for the interactive product have been met. If they have been met, the project can proceed to the next stage in the development proces. If they haven't been met, then the outcome here should be a list of usability problems that need to be rectified.
