Aerobic Respiration
Glucose + Oxygen ----> Carbon Dioxide + Water (+ Energy)
- Used for most of the time in our bodies
- Releases more energy than anaerobic respiration
- Not as quick as anaerobic respiration
Anaerobic Respiration
Glucose -----> Lactic Acid (+Energy)
- Quicker energy release
- Not as efficient
- Lactic Acid builds up in muscles causing cramps
- After exercise oxygen is needed to break down the lactic acid into oxygen and water, so deep breathing continues
- This is called OXYGEN DEBT
