Sheila

"Sheila is a pretty girl in her early twenties, very pleased with life and rather excited." This a brief description of Sheila.

"Oh - Gerald - you've got it - it is the one you wanted me to have?" Sheila questioning Gerald if she is the one he wants to be with for the rest of his life.

Arthur Birling (Mr Birling)

"Arthur Birling is a heavy-looking, a rather portentous man in his middle fifties with fairly easy manners but rather provincial in his speech." This is a brief description of Mr Birling and shows what class he fits into.

"You're just the kind of son-in-law I always wanted" Birling wants a son-in-law that will allow their family to progress, and with business.

"hard-headed businessman" This shows that Mr Birling is very focused on his company.

"Inspector, I've told you before, I don't like your tone nor the way you're handling this inquiry. And I don't propose to give you much more rope." Mr Birling is not liking the way the Inspector has made an introduction.

Mrs. Birling

"His wife is about fifty, a rather cold woman and her husband's social superior" Brief description of Mrs Birling.

"It's a lovely day ring. Be careful with it" Mrs Birling telling Sheila to be careful with her ring and her engagement with Gerald.

"Please don't contradict me like that, And in any case I don't suppose for a moment that we can understand why the girl committed suicide. Girls of that class."

"Eric, who seems to be in an excitable silly mood."

"I beg your pardon!"

Eric

"Eric is in his early twenties, not quite at ease, half-shy, half assertive." This is a brief description of Eric.

"(Takes decanter and helps himself")

Gerald

"Gerald Croft is an attractive chap about thirty, rather too manly to be dandy but very much the easy well-bred young man about town." Brief description of Gerald and informs the audience of what class he is in.

"Oh - I will, I will" Gerald contemplating and making sure that he will take care of his engagement.

"No he's a young man. And some young men drink far too much" Inspector Goole saying about Eric drinking a lot.
