  • 1,2-dibromoethane

Conditions:

  • Room temperature and pressure

  • 2-bromoethanol
  • CH2BrCH2OH

Conditions:

  • Room temperature and pressure

Electrophile:

  • HBr (aq)

Product:

  • bromoethane
  • CH3CH2Br

Conditions:

  • Aqueous solution
  • Room temperature and pressure

Water and ethene

Electrophile:

  • H2O
  • (H‒OH)

Product:

  • CH3CH2OH
  • ethanol

Conditions:

  • Phosphoric acid/silica
  • 300°C
  • 60atm

or

  • With concentrated H2SO4, then H2O at 1atm

Hydrogen and ethene

Electrophile:

  • H2

Product:

  • ethane
  • CH3CH3

Conditions:

  • Pt catalyst
  • Room temperature and pressure

or

  • Ni catalyst
  • 150°C
  • 5atm
