Religion

Disadvantages:

Thought disease was caused by a punishment from God. People would try to make up for it by praying to God for forgiveness. They would also be comfortable about dying because they believed in a life after this one so finding a true cure wouldn't be a big priority.

Advantages:

Some religious communities believed in giving and helping the poor, ill and less fortunate which would reduce the risk of people dying from starvation.

Wealth/Taxes/Feudal System

Disadvantages:

Money that would be spent on medicine or food would be taken away by the Lords and spent by the government on things that only benefit the higher classes. The feudal system prevents people from changing between the classes and escaping poverty.

Advantages:

The taxed money would go to the barons/knights which would improve their lifestyle and allow them to maintain public facilities like mills.

Towns

Disadvantages:

Disease ran wild and easily spread when traders visited the towns. They would carry diseases between towns which prevented them from becoming isolated incidents. Because everyone lived so close together, and in overcrowded houses, disease spread between individuals very fast.

Advantages:

Each town had their own council which invested money back into the town to help people's health and lifestyle.

Lack of Technology

Disadvantages:

Without the ability to be able to accurately diagnose medical problems, doctors came up with other ideas such as the '4 humours'. This would result in people being drained of some of the blood to put these 'humours' back into balance which could make people iller or even kill them.

Alcohol

Disadvantages:

Alcohol leads to drunkenness and violence and brawls. Also, alcohol wasn't as well regulated as it is now so people could easily get alcohol poisoning from it.

Advantages:

This meant that people weren't drinking the dirty water that could give them cholera or other water-borne diseases.

Villages

Disadvantages:

They don't have their own councils to develop them and, instead, are run by the monarch who wouldn't know the individual needs of the villagers. The money wasn't put back into the areas resulting in a large amount of preventable sickness in the villages.

Advantages:

Villages tended to be more widely dispersed and less crowded than towns because they weren't limited by boundaries. This slowed down the spread of diseases because they had to cover a greater distance to infect people.
