Signs and Symptoms- ADHD

  • Has trouble staying focused; is easily diostracted and gets bored with a task before it's completed 
  • Appears not to listen when spoken to
  • Has difficulty remembering things and following instructions; doesn't pay attention to details or makes careless mistakes
  • Has trouble staying organised, planning ahead and finishing projects 
  •  Frequently loses or mispalces homework, books, toys or other items
  • Being unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet surroundings
  • Constantly fidgeting 
  • Excessive talking
  • Mood swings

Diagnostic tools for diagnosis- ADHD

  • Usually noticed by parents or teachers.
  • A Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL/6-18) is used to confirm diagnosis.
  • When the child is being assessed it is done with a rating scale based on questions about the child's behaviour. 
  • This information contributes to further assessment and diagnosis by specialist doctors and psychologists.
