Adaptations

Ecological Niche - where an organism lives and it's role there

  • e.g A Saprrow Hawk living in a woodland feeding on insectiverous birds

Adaptations

Behavioural - reactions to the environment

  • Mammals cuddle in cold condiions

Physiological - metabolism or organism (what's going on inside)

  • Reptiles produce uric acid instead of urine in dry conditions

Morphological - strucure of organisms or their anatomy

  • Big paws / Cacti storing water in stems

Biotic Factors

Biotic Factors - ecological factors which concern the activities of living components of the environment

  • Competitors - organisms compete with each other for food, wather, light, minerals, shelter and a mate
    • interspecific - compete with members of different species
    • intraspecific - compete with members of the same species
  • Predators - the distribution of a species is determined by the presence or absenc of its prey

Abiotic Factors

Abiotic Factors - ecological factors which are concerned with the non-living part of the environment. Rainfall, soil pH, temperature and humidity

Climatic Factors

  • Temperature range
  • Availability of water
  • Light intensity

Edaphic Factors (soil)

  • pH of soil
  • Availability of macro an dmicro nutrients
  • Aeration of soil
