ACTIVE TRANSPORT

  • Occurs against a concentration gradient.
  • Requires energy.
    • This energy comes from cellular respiration.
  • Active transport means cells an absorb ions from very dilute solutions.

  • Uptaking mineral ions through the soil.
  • Glucose moves from the gut and kidney to the blood.
  • Salt glands in marine animals (as the kidneys cannot dispose of all the salt that they take up).
