ACID AND ALKALIS

-When we dissolve a substance in water the solution could be

1. Alkalis

2. neutral

3. acidic

acids form h+ ions when added to water

alkalis from OH- ions when added to water

Bases are substance which neutralise acids

Measuring acidity or alkalinity

- use indicators which change colour

- litmus paper is a well known indicator

- we use PH scale to see how acidic or Alkalis a solution is

 ph scale is from 0-14

- 0-6 PH is acidic

- 7PH is neutral

-7-14PH is Alkalis
