Obscenities- ****, murder, 'newborn ****', child abuse, child sexual abuse, necrophilia.

Worldwide reactions- Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia- banned. In Spain a festival director was charged with child ****ography for allowing the viewing of the film. The charges were dropped.

Basic Plot: Two victims of traumatic childhoods who became lovers and mass murderers, and are irresponsibly glorified by the mass media. Mickey and Mallory kill 52 people, including her parents.

BBFC rating: 18 uncut- considered carefully in terms of the tests laid out by the VRA 1984.

MPAA rating: Wouldn't rate it unless he cut down on the violence. Roughly 4 minutes was cut- rated as 'R'

Many copycat killings.

Oliver stone has maintained that the film is a satire on how serial killers are adored by the media for their horrific actions and that those who claim the violence in the movie itself is a cause of societal violence miss the point of the movie.

 Columbine high school massacre- Harris+Kelobold were fans of NBK. At the massacre they used the initials 'NBK' as their code. Wrote in their journals about the killings and saying murder isn't bad. On 20th April 1999 they murdered 12 students + 1 teacher, they both then killed themselves.

Richardson Family murder- 23rd April 2006 Jeremy Allan Steinke (23) + his 12yo gf murdered her parents + younger brother. Parents stopped her from seeing him die to age difference. Shortly after their arrest and being charged, they got engaged. Richardson was found guilty of 3 counts of first-degree murder + given 10 years in prison (maximum for someone her age) He was sentenced to life. He had watched NBK the night before the murders and told his friends about going 'NBK on her family'

Heath High School Shooting- 1st December 1997, 14yo Michael Carneal went to school and opened fire with a handgun at a prayer meeting, killing 3+wounding 5. Then calmly dropped the gun +surrendered to principle. Life in prison with no parole. In 1999 attorney for the parents of the murdered children filed a $33 million lawsuit against time warner, polygram film, palm pictures, island pictures, new line cinema, atari, nintendo and sony computer entertainment.
