6.2 Types of reproduction

Asexual reproduction does not involve the fusion of gametes. All of the genetic information comes from one parent. All of the offspring are genetically identical to the parent therefore there is little variation.

Identical copies produce by asexual reproduction are called clones.

Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of sex cells (gametes). There is a mixing of genetic information, so the offspring show variation.
