6.1 Inheritance

The nucleus of a cell contains thread-like structures called chromosomes; there are 46 chromosomes in a normal cell and 23 in a sex cell (gametes). Gametes are produces through meiosis.

The chromosome threads carry the genes. The offspring cells contain the genetic information from both parents. Different genes control different characteristics of the offspring.
