18/08/2017 - Un enfant peut-il être secouriste ?

In France, a child cannot be a professional first aider, but from the age of 10 years old, the Croix-Rouge can teach them first aid training, that of which starts with Civic Prevention and Assistance Level 1. This teaches them how to deal with emergencies where there could be people seriously injured or unwell. The way which the narrator defines a first aider is someone who is part of the emergency services, such as the fire brigade and the ambulance. Having such a role means that there is someone who can behave approprirately during a situation where someone is in danger.

19/08/2017 - À quoi ça sert de dormir?

If a child has a good night's sleep, they will grow well. The first stage of sleep could also be referred to as the repairing of the heart as it heals the body. For example, if you had just done a sport competition, this sleep would be particularly long to help your body get back to normal. This stage of sleeping creates new cells, and gets rid of the ones that are no longer needed. It also helps you strengthen your memory. The second stage of sleep is paradoxal sleep, where the brain can create imaginative dreams. Both stages of sleep prevent illnesses, are vital for good health, and allow you to learn.

22/08/2017 - C’est quoi, une éclipse solaire?

The sun is known globally as this star which brings light and then for a period of time, disappears, leaving the area dark. As we know, the moon orbits around the earth and the earth orbits around the sun. A solar eclipse is when the moon is right in front of the sun and as a result there is total darkness. The last solar eclipse in France was the 3 September 1999 and the next one is estimated to be on 11 August 2081. It took about 370 years to observe the behaviour of these eclipses and therefore estimate upcoming ones since 17th century. There also exists partial social eclipses, where only part of the sun is covered by the moon (pretty self explanatory tbh). The last one that happened in France was on the morning of 20th March 2015. For those who want to watch the eclipse as it happens, there are particular sunglasses required to wear to protect your eyes from direct contact with the sun. These glasses are called CE.

23/08/2016 - Existe-t-il plusieurs races humaines

A race is a way of grouping people based on their skin colour. However, it is important to recognise that humans have 99.9% of genes in common. Biologically speaking, there are many different races, yet they are all under the human species. The reason for which race is talked about is because some people in this world put people in boxes, stereotyping them for their race. During WW2, the Nazis felt they belonged to the Aryan race, where they had white skin, blond hair and blue eyes. Such Nazis excluded those who did not have this race. Racist people think they are superior to others because of their race, and exclude others who don't have the same skin colour. For example, in South Africa during the Apartheid (1948-1991), there weren't equal rights and white people where privileged. Nowadays, racist people still exist, however, they are often punished for their actions.
