HOW TO WRITE AN ESSAY
1) Start with premise (Tell us what you are going to say)
2) Develop and expand the premise (say it))
3) Show counter argument (Tell us why you are not saying the opposite)
4) Summarize the argument and counter-argument for your conclusion and
end with an explicit final answer (Repeat concisely and conclude)
- Use sources thoroughly (5+ quotes from each source)
- Use source caption info thoroughly and explicitly (quote)
- Use words of question throughout
- Integrate source critique within argument
- Integrate own knowledge with source ideas/quotes
- Dismantle/differentiate within question (e.g. 1830-75 period can be
broken up)
- Work should really cover 3-sides (without large margins)
