First 128 words of the document:

3 Describe the role of microorganisms in the decomposition of organic matter and the recycling
of carbon.
A corpse is a good source of energy for decomposers
The organic carbohydrates, proteins, fats and nucleic acids of the corpse are used as a food source=
energy released through aerobic and anaerobic respiration
This energy enables bacteria and fungi to grow and multiply rapidly = this ensures more decomposition
CO2 is released into the atmosphere via the respiring decomposers
This recycles the carbon back into a form that can be used in photosynthesis by plants to synthesise
more organic molecules
All dead organic material will provide energy in this way
Decomposition is a significant process that sustains the carbon cycle
