Many roles are available to become involved in physical activity.
Changing Roles ­ Moving roles can keep people involved in physical activity. Possible reasons
for having to change roles could be:
No longer able to play because of an injury
Tried it but didn't like it
Tried it and not good enough to compete but still want to be involved
Different roles need different qualities:
Qualities Explanation
Good organisation skills To run teams and arrange fixtures / plan
sessions
Good communication skills So people understand exactly what they
need to do
Good knowledge of the activity To plan training sessions appropriate to the
activity
Leadership (coach, manager)
Officiating (referee, umpire)
Qualities Explanation
Good Fitness To keep up with play
Good communication skills So people understand decisions
Good levels of confidence So people are less likely to argue
Good knowledge of the activity To make the correct decisions
Performer
Qualities Explanation
Good Fitness To meet the demands of the activity
Good Ability To perform well
Good Motivation To persevere and work hard even if losing
