Why did British people give £40 million pounds to Islamic Relief last
Last year, Pakistan was hit with horrendous floods, which completely
demolished many towns and cities. Much of the vital supplies, such as
electricity and water, were destroyed, leaving the high chance of cholera and
other water borne diseases to spread. I personally think that it was individuals
who went to great lengths to persuade others to give generously that raised
the £40 million that was subsequently donated to Islamic Relief. An example is
Sami Yusuf; he was a British born singer songwriter who raised £2 million
alone for Islamic relief last year. Also, there was an Internet report on "Five
`ordinary guys' from Yorkshire raise £1 million for Pakistan flood relief" this is
just another of the many examples that makes the bigger picture of £40
What do Muslims think about Jesus?
Muslims respect and worship Jesus. They consider him one of the greatest of
God's prophets and messengers to humankind. A Muslim never refers to him
simply as "Jesus", but always adds the phrase "upon him be peace." The Qur'an
confirms his virgin birth, and a special surah of the Qur'an is entitled "Mary."
Muslims also believe that Jesus as the breath of God, the spirit of God, the life
of God and the word of God. Muslims do not think Jesus died on the cross. They
believe that right before he was to be killed, God took him up to heaven and
someone else (probably Judas) replaced him on the cross.
Why do Muslims often get bad press?
I think that the reason Muslims get bad press is because they are associated
with bad people such as extremists. When people think about muslims, they
stereotypically put them down as "terrorists, who don't like westerners"
I think this reflects subtly in the media. Here's an example; A Muslim
community put a woman under pressure to withdraw sexual abuse charges
against her husband because it would dishonour him, he is a sexual criminal
with two convictions under his belt already and they babble about his honour.
This is all probably true, but they portray it in a bad manner, often not taking
into account the laws of Islam.
How did the Muslim religion begin?
The prophet Mohammed started the religion. He claims to have had a prophecy
and a series of visits from the angel Gabriel. He began his ministry in AD 610,
at the age of 40. Mohammed created a religion fashioned after Judaism, about
which he had a moderate knowledge. He rejected the polytheism of Mecca in
favour of a monotheism which involved worship of one of the five chief gods of
Western Arabia: Allah. His was a religion of simple worship involving prayer,
fasting and almsgiving. In the first few years he had very few converts to his
religion. Eventually, to escape persecution, Mohammed moved to Medina.
Here he gained a degree of political power and began to make a number of
What does the Quran say?
The Qur'an comprehends the complete code for the Muslims to live a good,
chaste, abundant and rewarding life in obedience to the commandments of
Allah, in this life and to gain salvation in the next. It is the "chart of life" for
every Muslim, and it is the "constitution" of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth
