Psychological Refractory Period
Anticipation has many benefits but we should also be aware of the drawbacks. If we
anticipate incorrectly about what are opponents are about to do or when they will do it,
our reaction time will be slowed down. If we have detected a stimulus and are
processing that information when a second stimulus comes along, we are unable to
attend to and process the second stimulus until we have finished processing the first
one, making our reaction time longer. This extra time is known as the Psychological
Refractory Period (PRP).
