This population structure has a narrow
top which indicates a low life expectancy.
Many people die before they reach the age of
50 due to bad health care and medication.
Along with the wide base that shows a
youthful population, as it has a high birth rate
and there is over 6% of the total population
between the ages 0-4. A rapid drop in the
population is due to 6% of adults having AIDS. It is common for places with little sanitation, such as Haiti, for
children to
live much longer than around the age of 20.
Causes of overpopulation in Haiti
· They would prefer to have boys over girls so they continue to have children until they conceive males.
· A lack of education could also be a cause.
· Their religion sometimes keeps them from using birth control and other factors of their religion come into play.
· In some cases they have more than one partner and that would also cause a rise in their population
Background Information
· Haiti is a Caribbean country.
· It occupies the western, smaller portion of the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antillean archipelago, which it shares with the
Dominican Republic.
· Haiti is thepoorest country in Western hemisphere with a huge 80% of the population living in absolute poverty.
· The country's highest point is Pic la Selle, at 2,680 metres (8,793 ft).
