Main muscles in the FRONT of the body.
Pectorals (Pecs) Upper part of chest.
Deltoids ­ Shoulder muscles.
Biceps ­ Front part of arms.
Abdominals ­ Lower part of chest, like the muscles for a six pack.
Quadriceps Muscles in the front of the upper legs. (Quads)
Main muscles in the back of the body.
Triceps ­ The back of the upper arm. Linked with the bicep.
Trapezius ­ The muscle between the two shoulder blades. (Trapezium, imagine it is trapped
between the two shoulder blades.)
Latissimus Dorsi In the lower back beneath the Trapezius.
Gluteus The bum! Imagine the gluteus maximus Big bum!
Handstrings ­ The muscle in the back of the upper leg.
Gastrocnemius The muscle on the back of your calf, the one that bulges out.
Three types of muscles:
Voluntary muscles ­ You are conscious that you are moving them. E.g Your
Biceps/Triceps. ALSO KNOWN AS SKELETAL OR STRIATED MUSCLES.
Involuntary muscles ­ You are not conscious that you are moving them. E.g your
intercostal muscles. ALSO KNOWN AS SMOOTH MUSCLES.
Cardiac Muscles ­ You are not conscious that you are moving them and they control
the rhythmatical contractions of the heart. E.g Your heart.
