How satisfied were the allied leaders with the Treaty of Versailles? (10 marks)
Georges Clemenceau
What did he ask for?
He asked for Germany to be crippled so they could not attack again and crippled financially by
wanting Germany to pay reparations. He also wanted Germany to be split up into smaller
states. He demanded a treaty that would weaken Germany as much as possible.
Was Clemenceau satisfied with the results?
Clemenceau was dissatisfied because of the low reparations that Germany were asked to
pay. He was worried that the reparations were so low that Germany's economy would
recover quickly enough for Germany to attack France again.
Woodrow Wilson
What did he ask for?
He wanted the world to be in peace. Unlike Georges Clemenceau Wilson did not feel
Germany should be to harshly punish as he thought this may cause another war. He was
abiding by democracy and wanted to strengthen it so that the people would not let There
leaders cause another war.
He also created the 14 points which was made to get the world back on track. Point 14
stated that the League of Nations was to be set up.
David Lloyd George
What did he ask for?
He wanted like Wilson for Germany to be justly punished but not to heavily.
He wanted Germany to lose its navy and its colonies because they threatened the British
Empire. However he did not want Britain to fall out with them as they were their main
trading partners. The British People did not like this idea at first but then they knew that
trading had to carry on with Germany as it meant more jobs would be created for the public.
