Belgium& france devastated. Main powers spend too much money on the war
People wanted germany to take the blame for the war- it wasnt allowed to take
part in the talks.
Wilson 14 points were irstly refused by germany, but when the fighting ended
they changed their mind, and wanted to base the peace konference on them .

THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES
JUNE 1919
RHINELAD DEMILITARISED
RESULTS OF THE TREATY 1) BLAME FoR THE WAR
2) 100,000 MEN, 6 warships, no aircrafts,
no armoured vehicles
3) Reperations of pounds 6600. It would
have taken germany until the 1980's
to pay
4) Lost colonies- now mandates run by
THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
5) League of nations brough to life.
What people though?
FAIR BECAUSE
-germany caused a lot of wars and deaths.
-though germany had to be made weaker for it not to start the war again.
-britain and france particulary wanted revenge on germany, so polititians in
order not to loose votes, did what the population wanted
TOO HARSH!
-germany left weak- this could lead to anger ... ANOTHER WAR.
-the treaty wouldnt help to rebuild europeam trade and wealth- germany
couldnt afford the reperations and many of the new countries were poor
-the peacemakers faced pressure from the people at home.
Remeber! Upper silisia given to poland as well as west [russia and posen
Alsace-lorraine given to france
-people in france though the treaty wasnt harsh enough so clemencau was
VOTED out in the next elections.
Wilson was dissapointed with the treaty- said, that if he were a german, he
wouldnt signed and so american congress didn approve the treaty

bombing of civilian populations, limit the size of
altillery, prohibit chemical warfare.

Proposal to ban the manufacture of chemical
