First 535 words of the document:

Local and national opportunities for girls' football
The first step on the performance pyramid is the foundation level in which the
participation of sport is given to the performer in activities such as pe lessons. As
girls football is a growing sport many schools offer it as part of their curriculum,
another reason why girls football is on the curriculum is because it is a relatively
cheap sport with no specific specialised equipment needed also there are no kits
that are required for health and safety reasons except shinpads.
On the second step up the progression pyramid is the participation level in which
the performer chooses to enter the sport for recreational purposes or for health and
fitness. There are some girls' football clubs around Staffordshire where girls can
play for recreational reasons but not many. Compared to nationally there are almost
none. The participations rates in girls' football clubs across the country have gone
up because it is becoming more advertised and a lot of role models are taking it up
e.g. the parents or celebrities. However the football clubs around Staffordshire are
few and far between making the accessibility factor a lot more complicated for it
means that the performer will have to either pay for transport or have to include other
members perhaps the family whom all have jobs making it inconvenient. Another
factor why girls' football hasn't yet taken off is because the cost off going to a club
outside of the school is very large as you have to take in the factors of transport,
facilities, equipment and the teams' kit.
The third step up the performance pyramid is the performance level where you play
for your regional team this means that you train weekly and receive coaching. Our
local team is Stoke city centre of excellence where the girls train twice weekly and
then have a match against other regional teams. The standard of coaching at the
centre is a lot more advanced and the performer has to be entirely committed to the
sport. To get into the stoke citys centre of excellence you have to go through an
audition process, get scouted or be highly recommended by a highly trained coach.
Once at this level the governing body of football the UFEA take a larger interest in
the performer as they may possibly be able to progress up to the next level of the
performance pyramid the excellence level where you perform for your country in
competitions such as the world Cup, this is where you may be funded to play your
sport and get medical and financial support. In girls football the facilities at this level
are superb with proper fitness centre to gain fitness so you have enough stamina to
perform in a full 90 minute game. The govern ing body take an active involvement at
this level because the performers will be playing nationally and this will bring them a
lot of money by viewers watching them.
