· Introduce a letter, (usually x).

· Form an equation by putting x equal to the recurring decimal.

· Multiply both sides of the equation; by 10 if 1 digit recurs, 100
if 2 digits recur, or by 1000 if 3 digits recur, etc.

· Subtract the original equation from the new one.
10x - x = 9x
7.777- 0.777=7
· Rearrange to find x.
