First 138 words of the document:

From Macmillan to Douglas-Home
In '63 Macmillan was unwell and tired and resigned
Asked the party elders to select the new leader in the
traditional Conservative fashion
Between Butler and Lord Hailsham BUT Mac liked
neither
Instead he recommended Lord Home who gave up his
peerage to become PM
Angered members as they had no say, it showed that
cliques and the old boy network was strong as ever
Butler had once again been the best man for the job
BUT was overlooked due to Mac mistrusting him
Following the election defeat in 64 the Tories dropped
this selection method and Heath became the first
leader under a more open voting system
Home was PM for one day short of a calendar year
