Feminism highlights the oppression of women with the aim of achieving equality
RADICAL FEMINISTS
Men benefit from the family more than women
Women do much more housework and childcare than men
Marriage is a type of prison for women (Domestic Violence)
Support family diversity, especially SPF's and Gay families
Support divorce as it allows women to escape marriage
RADICAL FEMINISTS CRITICISMS
Too extreme and unrealistic
Not all women are prisoners within marriage ­ some are happy
New right would heavily criticise divorce and single parenthood
MARXIST FEMINISTS
Women are exploited by both men and capitalist society
Women satisfy mens physical, emotional and sexual needs
Men who've had a bad day at work may take their anger out on their wives
Women "were takers of shit" (Ansley)
Women give birth to the next generation of workers
Women are used in the job market as a reserve army of labour
MARXIST FEMINISTS CRITICISMS
Women are much more equal in the job market (Equal Pay Act)
Women are much more independent in society today
Many women chose to be housewives
No longer love, honour, OBEY on the wedding vows
LIBERAL FEMINISTS
Focus on the increased equality that exists between men and women
Champion the "New Man" who is in touch with his feminine side
Equal opportunities: Sex Discrimination Act, Equal Pay Act, Marital Rape Act,
Divorce Reform Act etc.
