First 224 words of the document:

2. (a) Describe how films teach religious believers
about their faith, including illustrative examples
from at least one film that you have studied. [30]
Q.2 (a) It was disappointing to see how many
candidates clearly did not understand the thrust of
the question and instead gave a: 'I've watched this
film now I'm going to tell you about it whether it's
relevant or not' approach. The specification for this
topic clearly delineates what is expected from such a
question and suggests suitable material for
responding to it. Some centres followed the
specification and these were amongst those who were
able to gain the higher marks available for the
question. It was anticipated that candidates would
interrogate how films can give religious teaching or
instruction about faith (and religion) but most missed
this point. Candidates cannot expect to achieve highly
in their examinations if they do not answer
the question set. Studying the dimensions of religion
in film is a rigorous academic task and candidates that
expect to do well in future film questions
must recognise this. Merely repeating the narrative
plot of a film was never, and will never, be part of an
A2 expectation in this specification.

Assess this view with reference to at least one
film that you have studied. [20]
(b) Again, disappointing responses dominated here.
Interrogating the question and responding to the
issue that it contained would have allowed candidates
to produce focussed and high achieving responses to
this question.
Unfortunately only a handful seemed to realise this.…read more
