How are emission spectra formed?
· As electrons absorb energy in the form of light,
they take in enough energy to jump up the
electron shells. This is why there are missing lines
in the absorption spectrum of an element.
· In the experiment we did, there was no
absorption spectrum as we were using heat not
light.
· As the electron relaxes back down to a lower level
it releases the absorbed energy in the form of
light of varying frequencies. These frequencies
