What is the respiratory system
Your respiratory system controls your
breathing and begins when you draw in
air through your nose or mouth. The air
travels through your windpipe into both
of your lungs, where small air sacs
capture oxygen and distribute it in your
bloodstream through small blood
vessels called capillaries. Your
diaphragm is the muscle the controls
respiration and contracts when you
inhale. Your diaphragm then relaxes,
collapses your chest and forces out

What does the smoking do to
your system?
A cigarette contains over 4000 chemicals, Nicotine
is just one of the thousands.
When the chemicals enter the mouth and trachea, it
irritates them and leaves minor chemical burns as it
travels down.
When this chemical cocktail spills into your lungs as
a breathe of air, it immediately attacks the cilia;
burning them and no longer able to do their job.
With the cilia unable to do it's job, 4000 chemicals
enter into the lungs; killing vital cells allowing cancer to
full in the holes. The alveoli is also burnt loosing the
ability to take in air and move air through the body.

Long term effect of exercise on
the respiratory system
ALVEOLI: Your lungs adapt to regular exercise by activating more alveoli.
More alveoli can supply more oxygen to working muscles and tissues
throughout your body.
Mucus: Exercise exposes your lungs to stronger rushes of airflow.
Aerobic exercise in particular exposes you lungs to strong and
constant rushes or air.. This activity helps clear mucus in your lung.
Mucus build-up can diminish your lung capacity and lead to bacterial
Capillaries: Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels in your body. Oxygen
seeps out of thin capillary walls as carbon dioxide seeps in during respiration.
Exercise stimulates vasodilation, which increases the diameter of blood vessels
in your body, including the capillaries. This adaptation makes the exchange of
gasses more efficient.
Muscles: Long-term exercise helps to build the endurance of respiratory
muscles; such as the diaphragm. This allows deeper, fuller and more efficient
