GEOGRAPHY
Formed when a oceanic plate is
subducted under a less dense PLATE BOUNDARIES
continental plate.
Intense friction locks the plates
together until they overcome the
friction and they over come the
friction releasing a lot of energy
and causing earthquakes.
As the plate subducts it drags
down sediment and water
which mixes with magma
making it less dense.
This less dense magma is under
extreme pressure and so is
forced through the cracks in the
continental plate caused by the
earthquake. CONVERGENT DESTUCTIVE
This results in powerful volcanic
eruptions such as at Montserrat.
An example is the collision of the
South American Plate and the
Nazca Plate…read more

GEOGRAPHY
Two continental plates PLATE BOUNDARIES
collide.
They are of similar
densities so neither is
subducted.
The matter between
them buckles forming
fold mountains.
This causes powerful
earthquakes.
The Himalayas are fold
mountains. CONVERGENT COLLISION
An example of this
boundary can be found
between the Indo-
Australian Plate and
Eurasian Plate.…read more
