Warming up involves increasing the oxygen supply to the muscles so that they
become increasingly flexible and moveable. It means that it is not as easy to gain an
injury through dancing with inflexible and `cold' muscles. It also allows the mind to
become focused on dance
Walking forwards for 8 counts, then walk back. Walk 5 steps then role to the
ground, walk another 5 and jump. Repeat this around the space
Working the whole body, ankles to neck
Any movement that will increase the heart rate
Cooling down at the end of dance classes is the best time to stretch, allowing the body
to return to its proper state making the lactic acid which has been produced to leave
the body, which otherwise would cause muscle aches and pains the next day.
For example to stretch your quadriceps, you could bring you heal to you bum,
ensuring that the leg you are standing on is straight with leg facing forward.
Hold this for 20 seconds, then do the same on the other leg
o To improve this stretch it could be done for a longer period of time, next
time for 25 seconds and then after 30.

To ensure the safety to you and other dancers it is your responsibility to perform
safely within the space. These include...
Tying hair up, so it prevents temporary blindness
Jewellery removed
Keeping hydrated, to stop feeling faint
Trousers not too baggy/long nor wearing socks
Conditioning for dancers...
Improvement in training involves
awareness-accuracy etc.
