1. CREATION
1.1 Explain religious views on creation
· Religious views on the nature of creation greatly vary within Christianity, though most agree
on core theistic views
God Created man in his
Pinnacle of creation
Omni/Transcendent image with similar
Ex Nihilo 6/24 hour periods Stewardship over the

qualities
· Fundamentalist Christians believe the story of creation as told in the Bible (Genesis) to be the literal
word of God literally true. the universe was created in 6/24 hour periods. The Bishop Ussher calculated
the Earth's Age based on the ages of the prophets in the bible to be 6 10,000 years old. Young Earth
Creationists such as Ken Ham have devised "Creation Science" to support this view. Eg fossils = evidence of
Noah's Flood.
· Old Earth Creationists on the other hand interpret the 6/24 hour periods to be symbolic of longer periods
of time
· Conservative Christians such as Presbyterians believe the story of Creation, as told by the Bible though
"divinely inspired" needs to be reinterpreted to include recent discoveries in science. Although anything that
outright contradicts God's as the creator should be rejected
· Liberal Christians believe that the creation story is entirely symbolic a representative myth or legend. And
that the world view needs to be reconstructed to fit in with modern science
· Indeed Liberal Christians such as Paul Tillich argue that God is a sustainer, in a "continuous creation"
whereby He is immanent in the universe at all times and intervenes directly to sustain natural processes.
Such a view is more compatible with accepted scientific views on creation eg Evolution
· Deists on the other hand, completely reject this view, claiming God is solely transcendent - only the ex
nihilo creator, and has no other role in the universe. The universe is an "independent machine". We may
know God through REASON.…read more

1.2 Explain Scientific views on creation
Hydrogen and Helium Once these stars burned
grouped together out, Supernovae occurred
1. Scientific views on creation are forming stars and creating the elements
based on a materialistic world view galaxies Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen
natural causes. Up until the 1960's
most accepted was "Steady State",
however the standard model today
is the

First suggested
by George 10-35 seconds after, cosmic
Gamov inflation occurred, whereby
rapid growth caused the laws of
physics e.g. Gravity to come into

1.THE BIG CRUNCH the universe keeps on
expanding until density becomes too much and
the universe collapses in on itself.
Some speculate OSCILLATING UNIVERSE

The universe originated from the universe never ends, eventually all energy
an infinitely small/dense point and heat depletes until can support no life
called the Space Time Caused an explosion of
Singularity, that came into hot/dense matter that created
existence "ex nihilo" time and space…read more

1.4 Which are more convincing rb/sb?
INTRODUCTION
Many scientists claim Sb on origins discredit rb and will be able to explain all. However rb's
rebut these claims
1. Ex Nihilo is compatible with 1st cause (compared with "steady state"
2. Regardless of challenges to nature God and relationship with humanity (1. human life
less central 2. chaos/gradual), doesn't contradict the possibility of a supernatural cause
with natural consequences
3. Science disproves Genesis timescale, however OEC Gerald Schroeder claims 6 periods =
symbolic of longer periods of time = uncanny parallels between the order of creation in
Genesis (LIGHT, WATER, EARTH), and the order proven by science. Shroeder claims
they represent "identical realities" just on different scales.
"Let there be light" = separation of photons in the early universe
4. F.R.Tennant tries to reconcile Theism against claims of Deism
Precision of t he conditions in the universe are just EXACT to support life suggests and all
loving God who intended the universe to support life.
CONCLUSION
Science threatens fundamentalist Christian beliefs on immanence, personal relationship
Belief in God as the creator is still a reasonable claim.…read more
