Chapter one Algebra and functions
· You can find factors of f(x) by subsituting
numbers in. If f(a)=0 then (x-a) is a factor.
· e.g
f(x)= x2 + 3x + 2
We can put -1 into f(x) to see if (x+1) is a factor.
f(-1)= -12 + 3x-1 + 2 = 1 3 + 2 = 0
There is no remainder, we know this is factor.…read more

Chapter one Algebra and functions
· If f(x) is a polynomial and f(a)= 0 then (x-a) is a
factor of f(x)
· If f(x) is a polynomial and f(a/b)= 0 then (bx-a)
is a factor of f(x)
· If a polynomial f(x) is divided by (bx-a) then
the remainder is f(a/b)…read more

Chapter two the sine and cosine rule
Proof:
Using Pythagoras we And using Trig we
know... know...
Therefore
...
Now, substitute for
h... And then by multiplying out we end up
with the cosine rule....
Now for x (we lose the x2 from the x2)…read more

Chapter two the sine and cosine rule
· You can use the sine rule to find an unknown side in a triangle if
you know two angles and the length of one of their opposite
sides.
· You can use the sine rule to find an unkown angle in a triangle if
you know the lengths of two sides and one of their opposite
angles.
· You can use the cosine rule to find an unknown side in a triangle if
you know the lengths of two sides and the angle between them.
· You can find the area of a triangle using the formula:
Area = 0.5 x a x b x sinC
Providing you know the length of two sides and the angle between them.…read more
