First 152 words of the document:

Evaluation of the information processing approach to cognitive
development
Individual components of cognitive functioning, such as memory and attention, have been
analysed in detail
Many experiments have shown extensive insights into how cognitive processing changes
with age
Findings have been used to develop new teaching techniques. For example, how schools
encourage children to reflect on their own mental processing to enable the development of
metacognitive awareness
It may be possible to combine some findings with studies of the psycho-physiological
changes that occur with age for example, changes in the brain that parallel with increased
memory capacity
Findings are sometimes disparate and do not draw a clear conclusion towards a clear-cut
theory like Piaget's did
The computer analogy means researchers focus on the logical aspects of cognitive
processing, not the emotional, creative or social aspects
